The General Stanton Inn is one of America’s oldest Colonial Inns, established in 1640. This enchanting establishment, built around a preserved original dwelling from 1667, boasts over 350 years of fascinating history. It has welcomed esteemed guests like President George Washington and notorious figures such as Prohibition-era gangster Al Capone. From serving as a secret meeting place for Revolutionary War spies to its role in the Underground Railroad and as a refuge for rum runners during Prohibition, the inn’s walls echo with tales of intrigue and adventure. In the Roaring 20s, it became a lively destination for revelry, frequented by actress Tallulah Bankhead, celebrating in true Gatsby style until dawn.
Today, the General Stanton Inn continues to enchant visitors with its combination of historic charm and modern comforts. Each room is carefully restored to reflect its rich past while offering contemporary amenities.

This February, immerse yourself in the legend and atmosphere of the film franchise, Hell House, LLC, and the paranormal phenomena that inspired the TV series, 24 Hours in Hell. Investigate the former farmhouse and hotel that sparked it all, the Waldorf Estate of Fear. Tucked away in the Lehigh Valley, this chilling haunt attraction had no documented history until recently, when a descendant of the original landowner was found and shared original records, finally revealing pieces of the rich history of Carbon County. This farm is linked to the Haunted Jail in Jim Thorpe, the Gnad Huetten Massacre of 1755, and the very founding of the valley. Evidence gathered from paranormal research over the years is now being compared with verifiable historical documentation. You can also partake in this living history and explore this location solo for the very first time. On February 8th, 2025, we invite you to investigate four floors, expansive grounds, and an outlying shed during a paranormal event. You will have free access to the site from 7 PM until 3 AM. Overnight guests check out at 10 AM.
Exclusive overnight tickets are available for those who wish to stay the night at this location. Overnight spots are limited and o ered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring your own bedding. There is no running water, however, a portable bathroom will be provided for the evening. Keep in mind that the building lacks heating, so dress warmly. Overnight guests are welcome to stay until 10 AM. This venue does not feature any animatronics and is mostly stripped of props after the haunt season. You will have a vast area to explore, including a basement, a large first floor, an expansive second floor, and an attic. An outdoor building, previously a schoolhouse, is also available for investigation. The surrounding land, which is said to be haunted, may be explored depending on the weather, but be aware of the elemental spirits and Lenape presence. There’s more haunted history here than we previously realized!
If you prefer not to stay overnight at this location, several hotels are nearby: The Motor Inn on 209 The Country Inn and Suites on 209 The Hampton Inn on 209 All are situated in Lehighton, within a 15-minute drive from the Waldorf. For die-hard Hell House fans, we recommend making reservations at Joey B's, a Palmerton restaurant featured in the original Hell House film. This local gem is renowned for its tasty bar snacks, pizza, and a great selection of drinks. Since it’s a local favorite, reservations are essential. Located just 15 minutes from the hotel, you are sure to enjoy your entire Hell House-themed paranormal evening this February as you delve into haunted legends and living history with us at the Haunted Hell House: A Solo Paranormal Event.
Solo Investigator: No Overnight Stay ($75): Explore the vast grounds of the Waldorf Estate of Fear from 7 PM to 3 AM. You will have access to four floors, including the notorious basement, the former schoolhouse (an adjacent shed), and the outdoor areas. The property is much more expansive than it appears. Please ensure you leave the site by 3 AM. Guests will receive wristbands at check-in to indicate their ticket type.
Solo Investigator (Overnight Ticket) $125: Experience a Night at Hell House! Check-in starts at 7 PM, and you must check out by 10 AM—if you survive the night! You can explore the vast grounds, which include the notorious basement, three spacious floors of the hotel, the nearby shed (formerly a schoolhouse), and the expansive countryside beyond, weather permitting. Remember to bring your own cot, air mattress, and bedding. There is no heating—dress warmly! Please note that there is no running water, but portable restrooms will be available on-site. This adventure is not for the faint-hearted!
